INTI RAYMI

Party of the Sun

The Sun, the main god of the Inca civilization was considered like the creator of all that existed. He presided over the destiny of human beings and of the Universe. The Inti Raymi, the most luxurious feast, was devoted to the Sun. In order for it not to abandon the earth and its children, and maintain its orbit offering people warmth and happiness. They should offer sacrifices and adore it.
The Inti Raymi was born this way, the feast of the sun. From the Qorikancha until the Hauqaypata, each winter solstice. Cusco vibrated in the sacred. The Inca and his court got ready in purity and fasting to surrender homage to his father, the Sun. The Inca sovereign of the Tawantinsuyo presided over the central party sacrificing the Llama.

DESARROLLO DEL INTI RAYMI

QORIKANCHA (TEMPLE OF THE SUN)

The Chaskis pututeros enters the esplanade of the Qorikancha and announce the beginning of the Inti Raymi.
Immediately the Harawis make their appearance (musicians), to star the parade with the imperial army, the Aqllas, Ñustas, Qoya, T´ika -t´akaq and the real escort. The Inca, after being located in the apse of the Qorikancha, greets to the god Sun with a song and then he invites the people to participate in the ceremony. At the end of the message, all the message, all the artist that represent to the Inca Empire return to the temple of the Qorikancha to go to Plaza Mayor of Cusco.

INTIPAMPA’S (LITTLE SQUARE OF SANTO DOMINGO)

At the sound of the music the imperial army marks the step, as well as the Aqllas, Ñustas, Qoya, pichaqkuna, T´ika-t´akaq, placing themselves at the Inti pampas (Little square of Santo Domingo), waiting for the Inca to exit, to initiate the march toward the Hauqaypata, by the Pampa del Castillo and Inti K’ijllo (Loreto) streets.

HAUQAYPATA (MAIN SQUARE OF CUSCO)

SAQSAYWAMAN (CENTRAL MAIN)

ITINERARIO

We will pick you up at 8:00 a.m., to go at Qoricancha, to be able to see the beginning of the ceremony at 9:00 a.m. for around an hour. After that we will continue with the entourage to the main square, to could see the second part of the ceremony, it will has 25 minutes of duration approx. Then we will take the bus to go to Saqsaywaman, to see the most important part of the festivity for a space of 2 hours approx. it is here where the ceremony culminates, with our “forever young” tour guide and the groups go very organize to take the bus to go towards at Cusco City.
